The Djangal, a native of the Surguja, Chhattisgarh, India. (Possibly Dhangar see additional info)

Illustration from an Illustrated history of India published by Cassell, Petter & Galpin circa 1876. Pejoratibely captioned "The Djangal, a savage of the Sirgouja". As with many Victorian publications the portrayal of native names (or locations for that matter) was not always accurate. There is no listing of Djangal in the present day list of scheduled tribes in India. It could possibly refer to the Dhangar one of the oldest communities in India associated with Cattle herding.
