Caxton Gibbet
Unlike gallows which were used to execute people gibbets were used to display the body as a warning to others Caxton gibbet is on a small knoll on Ermine Street near Caxton in Cambridgeshire It was first used in the 1670s. The last recorded use was 1753 when Mr Gatward hung there for over three months until a high wind blew him down.
