Steam engine, Sophia Wilhelmina Evans, after Johannes Zacharias Simon Prey, 1782 - 1816 print Steam pumping station that was founded in 1786/1787 by the Batavian Society of the Proefnderlijk Philosophy in Rotterdam to drain the Blijdorp polder on the Rotterdam Schie. Since the Batavian Society was dominated by Patriots, the pumping station was nicknamed 'The Keezending'.
