This average surplus revenue was ascertained to amount to Piastres 11,121,952, but their equivalent in sterling does not appear to have been yet established between the two Governments. The equivalent Las however been estimated to represent in sterling £87,800. By a subsequent agreement the British Government consented to pay a further sum of £5000 per annum to His Imperial Majesty the Sultan in consideration of the abandonment of certain Crown lands. Consequently the Treasury of the Island of Cyprus is burdened annually with a payment due to the Sublime Forte which is estimated to represent £92,800. To face this payment
