Wlien fully gorjied, the ticks are nearly half an inch long, and they seem to favor the ears of dogs, or at least parts near the head. The males, fig. 158, do not enlarge like the females, but are about the size of the females before engorgement, and the body above as well as the borders of the legs are marked with bright, silvery lines and blotches, as shown in the figure.
