Göreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia Unesco world heritage site. In Nevsehir province of central Anatolia. The area around Goreme is an eroded plateau in a formerly volcanic region. Andesitic tuff from volcanic eruptions was overlaid with different layers of andesitic and basaltic lavas. These layers have eroded over time to form conical peaks, towers, obelisks and needles. In the landscape many dwellings and churches have been carved out.
