Sulphur (also spelled sulfur) in or near volcanoes is often precipitated from the fumes, gases and fluids as they escape from the active volcanoes. This precipitate is from Ijen Volcano in East Java, Indonesia and owes its bulbous appearance to a stalactite type of precipitation from percolating, sulphur-saturated height of this sample is 110 mm.
