Moon's surface. The lunar hemisphere that faces Earth has bright highlands and dark seas, or maria, which are lowland plains full of dark solidified lava. Also present are impact craters. At upper centre is the bright Aristarchus crater, with the deeper Copernicus crater to its lower right. Above Copernicus is the Mare Imbrium, to its left is the Oceanus Procellarum.
