Probably themost remarkable family bred by Mr MNeill were thefour couples of sisters whelped in 1905 by name,Pilgrim, Piteous, Pin-tail, Pittance, Pie-crust, Piety,Pillage, and Pitiless, by Belvoir Handel, 1899, fromAtherstone Pitiful, 1899. The most distinguishedof these was Pilgrim, a massive dark-coloured bitchstanding on beautiful legs and feet, who won theChampion Cup for Sir John Hume Campbell and. When MrMNeill retired in 1906, the pack of 42 couples ofbitches was purchased by the newly-appointedmaster, Sir John Hume Campbell, the price being£3600, and in 1910 he went with them to hunt theBerwickshire country situated on his own the end of two seasons Sir John Hume Campbellretired from mastership, and in 1912 the famousBerwickshire bitches came into the open market,their beautiful size and quality causing the keenestcompetition amongst the masters of numerous packs. It was a great pleasure to renew acquaintancewith the North Cotswold in March 1913, whenaccepting the invitation of Mr and Mrs C.
