Gold nanoparticles for medical diagnostics, coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). The image shows DNA-functionalized gold nanoparticles that have been assembled into a two-dimensional superlattice. This can be used for highly sensitive in vitro diagnostics for diseases such as cancer. This work was carried out researchers at the Northwestern University Center of Cancer Nanotechnology Excellence (NU-CCNE), USA. Image produced in 2008.
