Stiff stem, four to five feet high, with clean foliage. A silver cup costing $100, has been offered by the late James Simpson for the best vase of 25 blooms. A cup costing $50 will be offered for the best vase of 12 blooms, and a cup costing $25 will be offered for the best vase of six blooms. Competition for the above cups to occur at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's Show, November, 1896, and will be open to all. Will be sent out March 15th, 1896. A mammoth, extra late white variety of most robust habit and medium height, with magnificent heavy foliage close up to the bloom ; petals broad, firm and cupping to the center which is full and solid ; blooms 10 to 12 inches in diameter, 6 to 7 inches in depth and 15 to 18 inches across. The largest of all whites and the best late variety in com- merce, fitly named, as it cannot be surpassed in form, size or habit. Awarded N. C. S. Certificate at New York, November 23d, 1895. 50 cts. each. PHRYNE. Large Japanese bloom, with extra broad petals over three-quarters of an inch in width, overlapping one another, form- ing a high, round flower. Inner surface rich, red bronze, reverse bright delicate chrome, strong stiff stem, with handsome heavy foliage. 35 cts. each. N
