Market conditions both before and after Thanksgiving day have been bene- ficial to all the trade. The growers were able to cut a good quantity of stock for the holiday. While prices re- mained but fair on ordinary stock, the retailer had thus a chance to offer his patrons flowers on a holiday without the usual sharp advance in price. There was an especially heavy cut of mums, both large, medium and pom- pons. Boses were in fair supply and of excellent quality. Violets were scarce and prices advanced about fifty per cent. A few poor sweet peas brought more than they were worth. Carnations are still scarce and there appears to be no likelihood of a heavy cut till after Christmas. The day following Thanksgiving found the retailers eager to buy, show- ing that a good clean-up was made on heavy purchases. The market, however, was about depleted and ruling prices were higher than those before the holi- day. There was not a steady run of funeral work in November, nor has there been an abundance of large work in any line. The market has afforded an abundance of stock throughout. Bad though some growers may feel in comparing this with last year's returns, they have reason rather to feel grateful, for the wholesaler has labored under a heavy market.
