The Rhineland refinery consists of two factories in Cologne-Godorf and Wesseling in the south of Cologne located on the left bank of the Rhine. With a crude oil processing capacity of around 17 million tonnes per year, it is the largest refinery in Germany and has a total area of 440 ha. The refinery is the Rhineland in 2002 from the merger of the refinery, the former German oil company RWE DEA in Wesseling and the Shell refinery in Godorf emerged. It currently employs 1,600 permanent employees from different disciplines and forms from about 100 trainees. In addition, some 1,300 regular employees from partner companies working in the factory. The distribution of products to 38% on ships, 28% are using tanker trucks and transported on a pipeline to leave the factory. A further 11% of the manufactured products will have a pipeline directly to Lyondell Basell, a petrochemical company in the industry transported. Only 1% of the products leave the factory by rail.
