Fence on the San Andreas Fault that was split apart by the 1906 earthquake, Point Reyes, CA
The fault lies along the boundary of the Pacific and North American plates. In 1906 an earthquake resulted from a sudden shift in these plates whereby the Pacific plate moved 20 feet northwestward. This once contiguous fence was separated by the shifting tectonic plates.
