This is extremely poor practice, forthe cesspool should always be considered simply as a makeshift, madenecessary by the absence of better facilities. The worst feature thatpresents itself in country plumbing, is the disposal of the soil inhouse sewage. When, as occasionally happens, the sewage of a house may be dis-charged into a running stream, the difficulty may be solved in the caseof that particular house, although for all points lower down on such astream, the water is polluted and should not be used for drinking pur-poses.
