Los Angeles. True-colour radar-generated image of the city of Los Angeles, California, USA, and its surrounding area. Vegetation is green, urban areas are grey, desert is brown and water is blue. Los Angeles is at centre to bottom centre. At right is the Mojave Desert, separated from the city by the mountain range of the San Andreas fault (diagonal line from bottom right). At left is the Pacific Ocean with Los Angeles harbour at bottom and Santa Monica Bay above that. At upper right from Santa Monica Bay is San Fernando Valley. Image obtained by draping Landsat 7 satellite data, taken at an altitude of 700 kilometres on 4 May 2001, over topographical radar data from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM).
