This pretty little Bindweed is one of the greatest favourites among our indigenous wild flowers. Its feeble stems cannot raise themselves above the surface of the earth, but trail upon it until some friendly plant lends its firm support. Then the lowly Bindweed twines around its friendly sustainer, and decorates it with its nicely-shaped green leaves and beautiful pale whitish-pink flowers. It is very common in our corn- fields, and is a certain indicator of a dry soil. It is a most fitting emblem of Humility. SMALL CAPE MARIGOLD {Calendula pluvialis).— Presage. Omen. This flower expands invariably at seven o'clock in the morning, and remains open until four o'clock in the afternoon, if the weather be dry. If the flower does not open, or if it i8s.
