Man donating blood plasma in an apheresis clinic. His arm is covered so that the needle is hidden from view. The phlebotomist is putting labels on vacutainer tubes containing blood samples, which will be used to test for blood type and blood-borne diseases. Apheresis is the process by which blood from the donor is separated into its components by an apheresis machine (upper centre). Plasma (suspension fluid) and platelets (blood clotting components) are retained while the rest of the blood is returned to the donor. Photographed at the Crozatier Center in Saint-Antoine Hospital, Paris.
