Phosgene. Computer artwork of a molecule of the chemical warfare agent Phosgene (carbonic dichloride, chemical formula ()). The atoms are shown as spheres and are colour-coded: carbon (blue), oxygen (red), chlorine (green). The bonds between them are shown as cylinders. Phosgene (also known as CG) is used in chemical weapons. It is highly toxic and can cause fatal respiratory damage. It is also severly corrosive to all body tissues such as the eyes and skin. Phosgene is also used as a building block for synthetic polymers such as polycarbonate.
