BURPEE'S FARM ANNUAL. 25 BURPEE'S SELECTED CHESTER COUNTY i MAMMOTH J6^=" It has come to our knowledge that under the name of Premium Chester County INIammoth Corn (which has become so widely known, largely through our exten- sive advertising) there is much inferior seed put on the market. We wish enipliatically to state that zue are responsible only for that sold by ourselves, and that our seed is unapproachable in quality. Last year being with us a poor season for corn, it was not so good as usual, but this year the crop was extra large and fine, and we can honestly say it is the best we have ever had. During the past six years we have sold this com for seed very extensively, and are able to afhrm that the Chester County Mammoth Com, when genuine seed Ss, t planted, on good land, will oictyield every other variety cf Yellow Field Corn. It yields, under good cultivation, from 100 to 150 bushels shelled com per acre. The ears are very large, containing 14 to 32 rows of deep, bright yellow grains. It weighs 58 to 59 pounds per measured bushel; is not a hard, flinty com, but verj' sweet and nutritious It furnishes a large amount of ^ excellent fodder, growing 12 to 16 feet high, and taking a firm, strong hold in the groimd. It is, undoubtedly, the best Yellow Field Corn for all sections, except the far north, or on very light land, where the Farmers' Favorite Dent Cora, maturing, as it does, extra early, succeeds , better than any other variety'. Tlie Farm and Fireside, published by P. P. Mast & Co., Springfield, Ohio (issue of Feb. 15th, 1880), con- tained the following article, which we republish verbatim below:â â GOOD SEED CORN. I planted two rows of Mammoth Chester County Com on the 23d of ]\Iay last, in the drill. The drills were two ; and a half feet apart and fifty fee
