Two hundred and fifty bushels of potatoes to the acre are frequentlyraised, so many, that, says the river wit: It is necessary to rent land on which to pile them. Inthe Lisbon District, one acre, planted with first year alfalfa seed, raised 10 tons, and 48 acres, sim-ilarly planted, grew 367 tons.
