Possessing the Scotch-Irish characteristics, peculiar to thisclass of persevering and determinedsect. Dr. Campbell, when young, haddetermined to make something ofTiimself. He attended the publicschools, where he gained the rudi-iitients of knowledge. At foui-teen, he•entered a. private school at Orbisoniawliere he spent three terms. He hadstimulated his ambition for educa-tion and to gratify this insatiable. Dr. William J. Campbell 521 ;ire he taught for several terms:nd. re-entered the private school. Af-ter teaching three additional wintershe entered the Iron Citj- BusinessCollege at Pittsburg, where hemade good. Tl:e Doctor succeedingthis, attended College for aterm. In 1887 he entered the CivilService, and was a mail clerk for twoyears. After teaching a winter in the Doctor entered in 1890the Medico-Chirurgical Col!ege ofPhiladelphia, where he pursued acourse in medicine and surgery, grad-uating on May 4 1893. It was in 1893That the Doctor hung out his shinglein Mapleton, where he practiced for4 years, and during which time £hed himself as one Of theleading physicians of this county. In1897 he came to Mount Union andsettled, and sinct th£t time has beenone of our hurtling physicians.
