Old ruined castle on the hill, Castel Manfrino, Manfrino Castle, Abruzzo, Italy
Domnant over the Salinello throats in the Civitalla del Tronto municipality, on a rocky basin, the ruins of Manfrino castle are the more isolated and suggestive of Abruzzo. Its name probably derived from the svevian king Manfredi that built the castle up to 963 meters high, in sight of the tops of the Mountain of Campli and the Mountain of the Flowers, in a place already occupied by a Roman Castrum. Castel Manfrino (sec. XI-XIII) is near the border among Pontifical State and Kingdom of Naples, that fall down in 1860, during the birth of the new italian state. Now is part of the Gran Sasso-Laga National Park.
