Blackpool, Lancashire, UK. 14th November, 2018 ‘Safety in Numbers' _ The skies darken over Blackpool as tens of thousands of Starlings gather over the North Pier. An estimated 20,000 roosting birds swoop and position to pick the best spot to survive the cold blustery winds on the Fylde coast; described as the last dance before bed, the reason for the swooping, twisting and twirling remains largely a mystery. he numbers of roosting starlings has increased tenfold over the last few days. Although the coast has enjoyed a mild November so far, the vast number of birds estimated in the tens of thousands, have arrived to shelter in the structure of the North Pier. This may signal an expected change in weather conditions, of cold temperatures and stronger west winds.
