Muriel Elizabeth Mussells Seyfert (1909-1997), US astronomer. Seyfert was an astronomer at Harvard College Observatory, and is here being photographed in 1936 after having discovered three new 'ring nebulae' (planetary nebulae) in the Milky Way. She was employed as what was known as a human computer. The previous year, she had married Carl Keenan Seyfert, after whom the Seyfert galaxies were named in the 1940s. Photographed by Wesley Fuller, on 16 March 1936.
