This historical photograph shows the installation of a Mercury capsule and escape system on the top of booster prior to test firing of Mercury-Redstone at the Redstone test stand at the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). 1960. Assembled by MSFC, Mercury-Redstone was designed to place a manned space capsule in orbital flight around the earth and recover both safely.
