Funeral work has been exceptionally heavy. The football sea- son is expected to take up a large part of the surplus chrysanthemums and to materially increase their price. VarioTis Notes. J. Louis Loose, of the Washington Floral Co., is reported to be confined to his home suffering from an attack of the grip. A number of attractive Halloween displays were seen at the local stores last week. J. H. Small & Sons had a decoration in one of their windows which depicted Old Mother Goose .astride her broom and equipped with the tall, pointed hat so familiar to the children. The sharp-pointed nose, sup- porting a pair of spectacles, and the cloak which awes the little ones, were not forgotten. The background con- sisted of large palms and huge stand- ards of cornstalks. These brought into prominence the vases of choice chrys- anthemums placed on the sides and in the foreground. A large pile of pump- kins of all sizes and shapes completed the display. George C. Shaffer, at Fourteenth and I streets, northwest, had a woodland scene with a background showing a rustic fence. In the center were pump- kins, hollowed to serve as receptacles for daisies and chrysanthemums. Vases of chrysanthemums and handsomely colored oak foliage gave color to the scene. The W
