Fatty liver. Section through a liver affected by fatty liver disease (FLD). FLD is a reversible condition characterised by the presence of large vacuoles of triglyceride fat accumulated in the liver cells. It occurs through the process of steatosis - the abnormal retention of lipids within a cell. It is often caused through excessive alcohol intake or obesity.
