In 1867 he visited Europe, passing several monthsin traveling through France, Italy, and the annexation of Dorchester to the city of Bos-ton, in 1869, he was elected to represent that sectionof the city in the Board of Aldermen. After serv-ing two years (1870-71) he declined a re election,and in the following year visited Europe again, partlyfor business and partly for purposes of recreation.
