Traditional old British Customs,Festivities and events - A traditional English 'Harvest Home' celebration, following the end of harvesting work in rural England- August 1845. The event , also called the Ingathering, coincides with the church harvest festival, was celebrated from the earliest times, usually in late September / early August, Celebrations varied but typically included feasting, music & drinking alcohol. The last sheaf of corn or other grain made into a harvest doll named the Cailleac is drenched with water kept until the next harvest, representing the Pagan spirit of the fields.
