London, Old Cries of London. St Swithin's Day procession is held on the 15th July each year. If it rains on the day it will rail for forty days more. At the bottom of St Swithins Lane an annual procession takes place. The men of the Worshipful Company of Vintners (Wine Merchants) are led by a gent wearing a white smock and a top hat who sweeps the road before him, Each man carries a small bunch of flowers. It is a reminder of the days when it was so foul smelling and the road so dirty.
