Orange clouds sunset view, from Jackson Lake Lodge, towards silhouette Mount Moran, Mount Saint John, Grand Teton and other Teton peaks, Wyoming, USA
The Grand Teton (left of shot) is the highest mountain in the Teton Rnage at 4197 metres (13,770 feet). It may have been so-named by 19th century fur-trappers , being derived from the French 'large teat'. The name, alternatively, may derive from the Teton Sioux. The flat-topped Mount Moran (right of shot) stands 3842 metres (12,605 feet) above sea-level, and rises 1600 metres above the valley-floor of Jackson Hole. Mount Moran was named after landscape artist, Thomas Moran, who travelled north of the Teton Mountains to Yellowstone with the Hayden Expedition in 1871. His sketches and watercolours helped popularise Yellowstone as the world's first national park. Other peaks in the shot (right to left) include Thor Peak (3386 metres), Maidenform Peak (3395 metres), Mount Woodring (3533 metres), Mount Saint John (3484 metres), Mount Owen (3940 metres), Middle Teton ( 3903 metres), South Teton (3814 metres), The Wall Mountain (3386 metres), and Mount Wister (3502 metres).
