Indonesia: A Japanese Christian who remained in Jakarta after Sakoku. Painting by Andries Beeckman (31 August 1628 - 9 August 1664), c. 1656. The same Japanese Christian appears on the right hand side, in the foreground, of Andries Beeckman's painting 'The Castle of Batavia' (c. 1656). The Japanese, his Christianity apparently indicated by his hat, must have been a well-known figure in contemporaneous Batavia (Jakarta).
