A device used to measure lung capacity and function, the digital peak flow meter measures the patient's maximum ability to exhale The average person should be able to ‘blow’ around 300-400 l/p min but with severe asthma patients this can drop to around 100. It is important that the device is used correctly, people may be tempted to blow into the device; this however is not correct and will give an incorrect reading. Instead the person using the device must simply breathe into the device as hard as possible for as long as possible.
