After having been examined by the Mar(iuis de Montcalm, Mrijor Putnam was conduct-ed to Montreal by a French ollicer, who treated him with the greatest indulgence and hu-manity.—Humphreys Life of Putnam. The village of Fort Ann, on Wood creek and the canal, 58 milesfrom Albany, and 10 S. from Whitehall, contains about 50 dwellings,and 3 churches. It is situated on the site of old Fort Ann, erected in1757, and was a place of some importance during the colonial two miles south of the village, vestiges of Burgoynes road,constructed of logs, &c., in 1777, are still to be seen. Fort Edward is a small village, situated on the Hudson river andCharaplain canal, 47 miles from Albany, and about 3 from Sandy MURDER OF MISS McCREA. In 1^11, during the Ex}3edition of Gen. Burgoyne, two Indian Chiefs wereemployed to bring Miss McCrea to a place of safety within the Britishlines. Quarreling about the reward, one of them killed her, tore off herscalp and carried it to her lover.
