Themethod of dealing with the coaland ashes is briefly as follows: Coal may either be brought inby barges on the canal which runsat right angles with the boilerhouse, or by means of carts. Ifby the former means, the coal isdischarged by hand on to a conveyor of the Robbins typewhich runs the full length of thebasin. This conveyor is capableof dealing with 60 tons of coal perhour when running at a speed of200 ft. per minute, and has its top rollers of cast iron spaced out 5 ft. apart, and the bottom roll-ers spaced about 10 ft. apart. The end drums are 30 ins. di-ameter. All spindles and shafts throughout this conveyor.
