Manaus Opera House. Also called the Amazon Theatre (Teatro Amazonas), this opera house is located in Manaus, a city in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon. It was built from 1884 during the time of the rubber boom that made this area wealthy. The building was designed by the Italian architect Celestial Sacardim., and opened on 31 December 1896. From 2001, a new governor has increased funding, attracting world-class musicians to form the Amazon Philharmonic orchestra.
