The present specimen having nopectoral limb cannot have afforded the diagnosis based onthat part of the skeleton, while most of the dimen-sions given by Owen, as well as the number of the teeth,do not agree with those of this specimen. The descrip-tion of impressions of the skin seems, however, to referto this specimen ; and the total length and general preser-vation of the vertebral column also tally with Owens Fig. Ichthyosaurus conybeari.—The ventral aspect of the left pectoral limb ofNo. 38523. f. h, humerus; r, radius ; u, ulna ; i, intermedium. Thevertical lines show the relative lengths of the limb and the skull; thelonger one being that of the skull drawn of the same absolute size asin fig. 20. The notches in the anterior border of the first row ofphalangeals are omitted. description. On the other hand, the condition of thevertebral column, and the dimensions of the pectoral limbof the above-mentioned skeleton of /. communis indicate theimpossibility of that specimen alone having been the type of1. latimanus. On these grounds the latter name must beabolished. Presented by the Council of the Bristol Philosophical Institute, 1839. 1CHTHTOSAT7EIDJ3. OO 38523.
