It is the first shipping company to transport liquefied petroleum gas known as LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) on inland waterways, playing a role in the rapid development of petrochemicals . In 1965, Gastankvaartmaatschappij Chemgas BV was founded by Dutch companies Van Ommeren (now Vopak ) and Vulcaan. Chemgas Shipping BV is currently the largest shipping company for gas transport in Europe. A subsidiary is Chemgas Barging Sàrlin Luxembourg, which is responsible for inland navigation.
