Nipponites mirabilis ammonite fossil

Nipponites mirabilis ammonite fossil, an ammointe with a strange unrolled shell. Ammonite shells are usually formed into spiral. This specimen dates from the Maastrichtian age ( to 66 million years ago) of the Late Cretaceous. Ammonites are extinct marine animals which lived between 380 and 65 million years ago. They are distantly related to the modern-day nautilus. They lived in coastal waters and inland seas. This specimen measures 10cm in length. Luc Ebbo, Paleogalerie, Salignac.
