Whale skeleton is tragic evidence of former massive whaling activity on Wiencke Island Antarctica

Whaling dates back to about 4,000BC . It was important in the Antarctic during the period 18th to the 20th centuries with competitive national whaling industries. The introduction of factory ships along with the concept of whale "harvesting" in the first half of the 20th century led to massive indiscriminate slaughter of whales.
