'Arx Ruohim' or 'Neptune's Temple', a folly at Kingsgate Bay near Broadstairs in Kent. SEE DESCRIPTION FOR DETAILS.

Lord Holland, an eighteenth century landowner, lived at Holland House in Kingsgate and surrounded it with a number of flint-built follies. Those which remain include part of Kingsgate Castle, the Captain Digby Inn (which is a rebuilding of the folly Bede House) and Arx Ruohim or Neptune's Temple which was modelled on Henry VIII's castles along the coast at Camber, Walmer and Deal. The flint base is now all that remains, but it originally had a red brick tower supporting a statue of Neptune and an inscription stating, incorrectly, that it had been built in 448 AD by King Vortigern.
