TT HAPPENS in the routine course of trade Publishing that occasionally a scholar and a pub- lisher break bread over the notion of encompassing infinity in a Sin- gle work. Some of these attempts have resulted in notable liter- ature, such as the Beard's "Rise of American Civilization" series, and Sandburg's monumental study of Abraham Lincoln. Dr. Fritz Kahn*s complete sur- vey of human biology, under the considerable title, "Man in Struc- ture and Function," may v e r y well join this impressive Company. In it, the author discusses the lifo of the human being from concep- tion to death. With merciless scientific efficiency he proceeds to lay bare the entire framework of biology to the layman. Fre- quent illustrations and diagrams, nearly 500 in all, illuminate his prose. Dr. Kahn categorizes his sub- ject into 10 sections. Briefly, these are: development of the indi- vidual, skeleton, musculature, cir- culation, respiration, digestion, nutrition, skin and sensory Or- gans, and sex.
