In the municipality of Curralinho, on the island of Marajo, the Pimental canal is dry. The inhabitants of this isolated community report that, usually at this time of year, a trickle of water continues to flow through it. Between September and November 2023, the Amazon experienced an unprecedented drought. Fires that ravaged flora and fauna, and many communities were cut off from the rest of the world, as to navigate they rely on waterways that had dried up.
