The progress is normally slow but is hastened by improperliving, poor quality of food, lack of exercise and vitiated hypertrophy^ keeps pace with the impairment of thecirculation due to degeneration of the vessels. With the limitof hypertrophy is also reached the limit of tonicity. Furtherstrain results in broken compensation and dilatation and thisends in cardiac exhaustion. In the secondary arteriosclerosis, the prognosis will dependupon the cure of the primary disease and the activity of themetabolic processes.
