The greatest fall ot rain OENAMENTAL TEEES AND SHEUBS. |LTHOIJGH many valuable in-troductions of ornamentaltrees and shrubs bave beenmade during tbe past twentyyears, our parks and pleasuregrounds remain in much tbesame condition as regardstbe general features producedby ornamental trees as beforethe introduction of those no-velties. Whether we examine pub-lic or private parks and pleasuregrounds, the sameness of the materials employed rendersthe landscape monotonous, and leaves nothing for the eyeto fix on. Taking the majority of our parks from theenclosiue of ten up to that of a thousand acres in extent,in them we find nothing of interest in the way of trees,except those peculiar to the soil, and which may havesprung up from self-sown seeds, or been part of the origi-nal forest, so far as there is any indication of their beingthere for the purpose of embellishment.
