During the war, many of the graves were destroyed and the cemetery was neglected. In recent years, a comprehensive restoration has been carried out to preserve the remains of the graves and to restore the cemetery to a good condition. Today, the cemetery is a historical monument and a place of remembrance for the Jewish community of Kaunas. The Žaliakalnio žydų senosios kapinės are an important part of the Jewish history of Lithuania and a place that commemorates the victims of the Holocaust.
