View ENE of the exposed burial chamber of Ty Newydd Neolithic passage grave, Anglesey, Wales, UK. The chamber was originally covered by a round cairn whose extent is marked by small bollards. Excavation in 1936 suggested that there had been an entrance passage to the E (R) with a sill across the chamber entrance. Finds indicated use in the Neolithic, Beaker & Bronze Age. Cupmarks have been recognised on the capstone. The damaged capstone is partly supported by a pillar of stone blocks inserted in 1935. In the early 19th century a tenant, to welcome home his landlord, lit a bonfire on top of the dolmen & cracked the already broken capstone.
