After five years with BatteryC of the 2nd Field Artillery he cameto France early in the war as SergeantMajor of the 10th Field Artillery. Fromthis organization he was sent to the Artil-lery School at Saumur, France, and com-missioned a 2nd Lieutenant in September191S. He was attached to the batteryin the same month.
