Following the work of the Burnt DistrictCommission other millions were spent according to a definiteplan of City development. So much for the past. What is the City Government doing today? It is building the finest sanitary Sewerage system in theworld, and will expend about $23,000,000 for this system is almost completed. It has spent $6,1 61,000 on its magnificent Municipal docks,and has available $5,000,000 more for the enlargement of thesystem, which includes a recreation rH& ^Er BOOK It IS constructing a broad street (Key Highway) parallelingthe south side of the harbor for several miles. It is grappling the paving problem, and a Commission is nowengaged in a general repaving plan for the entire City. TheCommission has a working capital of $5,000,000. This willbe increased by means of the paving tax to $10,000,000, To date 54 miles have been repaved and 10 miles are undercontract. The highways are being improved under a generalplan, and it is the aim of the administration to make Balti-more second to none in this particular branch of civic develop-ment. The latest standard specifications are followed and fourstandard pavements, namely. Granite Block, Vitrified Block,Sheet Asphalt and Wood Block, are being used.
